Job Summary

The MathWorks China Education Business Development Executive will drive the implementation, analysis, and on-going improvement of The MathWorks approach to selling large-scale teaching-related software licenses and services in China.   

Based in The MathWorks Beijing Office, this person will report to the US-based China Marketing Programs Manager and will be required to work closely with MathWorks internal, cross-functional teams to achieve his/her objectives.



Responsibilities

The China Education Business Development Executive’s responsibilities include:
A.  Driving Development of an Academic Large- Account Approach for China
This effort entails working with relevant internal and external constituencies in:

  • Defining, building, refining, and documenting the selling/licensing approach.
  • Representing The MathWorks as the primary contact in large-scale account presentations and negotiations.
  • Identifying and documenting the attributes, goals, and other factors considered most valuable to China’s academic customers.
  • Understanding the requirements for purchasing, installing, activating, and administering The MathWorks large-account academic license option(s) in China and proposing solutions to ensure MathWorks customers have the resources required to utilize the software.
  • Developing sales and marketing materials that address the interests and needs of academic users of MathWorks software and services in China.
  • Ensuring- through close collaboration with The MathWorks China educational sales and marketing teams - optimal lead flow, messaging and collateral, pricing and negotiation, and relationship-building with key decision-makers across multiple academic license types.

B.  Standardization of Sales Model and Processes
Upon successful development of the academic large-account approach for China, this person will be responsible for working with MathWorks internal, cross-functional teams to refine and ensure systems and process support for the sales/licensing process.  In addition, this person will be responsible for defining and executing business development activities to extend large-scale academic adoptions beyond the initial strategic targets.



Qualifications

  • B.A. in engineering, physics, computer science, mathematics, or related fields
  • Minimum of 8 years working experience
  • Three or more years business development experience in China’s higher education sector including large, complex sales
  • Excellent written and oral Chinese (Mandarin) communication skills
  • Strong written and oral English skills
  • Self-motivated, goal driven, creative team player
  • Strong work ethic

Note:  This position will require frequent (approx. 25 - 50%) domestic travel.  International travel is expected to be relatively infrequent (approx. 1-2 trips per year).
